Two flowers of the same variety can smell and taste very differently. One of the main reasons for this lies in what happens after harvesting: drying and curing.<\/p>\n
When freshly cut, a cannabis plant contains a lot of water. Drying involves slowly removing most of this moisture by hanging the branches in a dark, well-ventilated space with controlled temperature and humidity. This usually takes between one and two weeks.<\/p>\n
If it dries too quickly, the flower becomes rough and loses its scent. If it dries too slowly, there is an increased risk of mould.<\/p>\n
Once dry, the flower is stored in airtight containers for several weeks. During this time, the moisture remaining inside the bud is distributed evenly and processes continue which transform compounds such as chlorophyll.<\/p>\n
During the first few weeks, the containers are opened for a few minutes every day to let in fresh air. This is known as \u00abventilating\u00bb or burping<\/em>.<\/p>\n A basic curing process takes about two weeks, but many growers prefer to wait a month or more. Some varieties continue to improve for months if stored in the right conditions.<\/p>\n It has an intense, clean aroma when you open the container; it doesn\u2019t crumble when touched or feel damp, and its colours look vibrant.
